KIMTECH* Disposable Garment Recycling Programme - FAQ

Recycling your waste with KIMBERLY-CLARK PROFESSIONAL®

To register your interest in the programme please complete the form found here - a KCP representative will then contact you in due course. In order to participate in the recycling programme, you must be approved by KIMBERLY-CLARK PROFESSIONAL®. Once approved TerraCycle® will be in direct contact to set up your account and provide all necessary details and materials to launch the collection at your site.

Large Locations

First, provide your employees with collection boxes or a bin liner close to where they exchange and dispose of their used KIMTECH® disposable garments. Secondly, when the collection box or bin liner is full, transfer your collected garments to any box that could be used as a transportation box. If collected in a bin liner, the liner can be placed into the box together with the collected garments. There is no need to separate the two. Seal the box and place it on a pallet. Once one or more pallets are full, please send an email to customersupport@terracycle.co.uk to schedule a pick-up. Please include your business name, your name and a contact telephone number so a TerraCycle® representative can get in touch to schedule a suitable time for the pick-up.

Small Locations

If the amount of garments you use does not justify a pallet shipment, you will be able to request a shipping label that will allow you to send in one box at a time. The collection process on site is the same as for large locations.

You should aim to maximise efficiencies by sending large boxes. The maximum box dimensions are 419cm in length and girth combined, the maximum weight is 25 kg. Once a box is full you can request a shipping label by logging into your account and clicking the “send your waste” button. The shipping label will then be sent as a pdf to the email address you provided. If you have a box to send that weighs more than 25 kg / exceeds maximum box dimensions then please contact TerraCycle® at customersupport@terracycle.co.uk to request a special heavy package label (this caters for up to 70 kg).

Once your pallet(s) is ready, please send an email to customersupport@terracycle.co.uk to schedule a pick-up. Please include your business name, your name and a contact telephone number so a TerraCycle® representative can get in touch to schedule a suitable time for the pick-up. Please place the boxes in the shipping area or in the warehouse of your company, where they can be easily picked up by our logistics partner.

The collection programme has a cost dependant on the scale and usage of your facility. You will be advised of the costs when contacted by the KCP® representative.

The garments are initially stored by our logistics partner. When we’ve collected a sufficient amount of disposable garments from all the different participating companies in the KIMTECH® Disposable Garment Recycling Programme®, we start with the recycling process. We try to recycle the disposable garments as locally as possible and with the available and most up-to-date technologies and infrastructures. The garments made from nitrile and Latex are processed using an extruder to produce plastic granules, which serves as a secondary raw material for new plastic products. Disposable garments can be further processed in order to become the raw materials used to make the likes of park benches, waste bins, or watering cans.

To request resources that you can use to inform all employees in the company about the collection programme, please contact KIMBERLY-CLARK PROFESSIONAL® by email kimtech.support@kcc.com.

We accept only disposable garments from KIMTECH®. Disposable garments of any other brands are not accepted by TerraCycle®. Furthermore, we cannot accept KIMTECH® garments that are contaminated, according to the European-wide list of wastes Regulation (AVV) as they are considered dangerous and must be disposed of properly. These include:

  • - Disposable garments, which according to AVV waste key are categorized as 15 02 02 and are contaminated by dangerous substances (E.g. chemicals).
  • - Disposable garments, which according to AVV waste key are categorized as 18 01 04 and are tainted with blood, secretions or excreta.
  • - Disposable garments, which according to AVV waste key are categorized as 18 01 03 and are fraught with reportable pathogens, if a spread of the disease is to be feared.

If you decide to stop running the programme in your company, please contact our team via email at customersupport@terracycle.co.uk or call freephone 0800 047 0984 to let us know.
